Our studies are in English and we have ESL programs that can assist international students. We can provide academic or vocational programs, as well as fine arts and personal growth opportunities. BRSD is located on the prairies in central Alberta, Canada. BRSD covers an area of 6,700 square kilometres. There are over 30 schools in our division, providing instruction for more than 6000 students. Camrose is the major centre, with a population of over 18,000. Due to our unique location and size, international students receive a genuine Canadian cultural experience in a safe and welcoming environment and an excellent education attending Red Deer Catholic Schools.
Red Deer Public has welcomed students from around the world for many years. We have partner schools in France, Germany, Japan, and China. In addition exchange students and new Canadians from all parts of the world make up our ESL classes. In addition, you are assured of receiving instruction at your level, to meet your needs, while taking academic courses with your Canadian peers. Students will take one or two 70 periods of ESL per day depending on need. After a student is accepted into our program, we will send you an Online ESL test to help us decide that student should be placed.
• Red Deer Public Schools does not require the TOEFL for entrance into the International Student Program
• ESL is available in grades 9 through 12
• To qualify for university entrance in Canada students must acquire English 30 as part of their high school diploma.
It is important to note that students needing Level 1 or 2 of ESL will be assigned to Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. Hunting Hills High School has limited support for ESL.
